get it started

Merry day after Christmas! I hope everyone got what they wanted.
Here’s some of the knitting related things I’ve got to show:

My momma made me a PIE HAT. It’s very nice, totally rad. The only downside is, it’s sooo heavy! It’s hard to keep it on my head. Also on the knitting front:

Oh how I adore it. I’ve always loved the patterns I’ve found at MOCHIMOCHI and having things in book form makes things that much easier. I also love that in the back of this book there’s a guide on how to design patterns on your own. Very cool.
But, of course, I’m saving the best for last

I’ve started my sweater! It’s a christmas miracle! Just kidding. But I am pretty happy to get this started. The pattern comes from a book called CHIC KNITS. I picked it up at my local Hobby Lobby and really liked the BOYFRIEND SWEATER. Other than that, I’m not sure I care for much more in this book. Anyways, the sweater is knitting up pretty quick. It’s just a straight stockinette for now. I’ll wait till I get to the good stuff till I post about it again. That’s all I really have for now.

Seasons Knittings everybody!

Long story

Well today was very much not spent knitting or anything. Especially not starting my sweater (mumble grumble). So yeah, as christmas approaches, I spent the day making cookies. Or doing things like this:

But lets go back to the title of this post. I have a story that brings me to this question. Back in the spring I was toodling around at the music festival I was asked to sing at. There were lots of little tents and areas to buy handmade things and good Florida crafts. But there was one place in particular that caught my eye. A tent with an elder lady spinning wool! It was so cool and exciting to watch her go and she was selling her hand-spun yarn. Naturally I bought some. I picked out a blueish-gray color that has specks of pink in it. It was quite a large skein, being about 500 yards or so, I was told.  Thing is, I kinda forgot about it until tonight when I decided to roll it into a ball. So I untied the strings holding it in some kind of organized matter and this happened:

YIKES! It was a mess, but I knew I had to just get through it. How aggravating. Here's the finished product (to my surprise) its not all one piece.

I’m determined to cast on my sweater tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Fears

It’s been about a month since I’ve casted anything on or had any yarn on two hooks. Of course, I mean knitting! Somehow, I’ve had a sudden eureka moment with crocheting and now I can’t stop. But there is my fear. I’m afraid I’ve forgotten how to knit! Of course, I know this must be irrational, but its made me hesitate starting the sweater I’ve finally bought yarn for. By hesitate, I mean I didn’t start it right when I got home from hobby lobby, but this is a completely different story. I’ll start it tomorrow maybe. I know I can do it. It’s gonna take a lot of patience and time though, two things I don’t have. We’ll see. Here’s the yarn:

It’s hard to tell, but it’s a really pretty orangey/reddish color called Terra Cotta by I Love This Yarn. It’s pretty soft and I like the feel, so hopefully it’ll be a nice project.
So recap.
Materials: check.
Pattern: check.
Time will tell.

Obsession

My current obsessions in patterns have been more geared towards crocheting more than knitting. I’ve just learned how to crochet really well and started branching out with more than just making scarfs and crocheting in circles.
ANYWAYS. I was talking on the phone with my boyfriend the other day and surfing the internet as I usually do. I happened upon to ravelry, (hit me up s/n: jennilynch) as my unconcerned surfing usually does. I decided to look in the slipper section because I’ve been into footwear lately. Point being, my usually useless surfing ended me up here.

I am in love with this pattern! I’ve made two pairs so far and they’re super comfy. I’m totally going to make these in many many colors. How fun
